After living in salem for nearly 10 years…
I found myself resisting the urge to approach strangers and say GO HERE and HERE. This spot is so spooky and quiet! This one is classic 1970s Salem. This place feels like an episode of Stranger Things. So, I tried to create a tour book that would let you wander, but with a mission. It has all the places I love to go in Salem (with minimal lines/crowds) and I am genuinely so excited and lucky to be able to finally share with fellow explorers.
A little bit more about the process, if you are interested... It started as an idea that my boyfriend and I came up with while visiting the Peabody Essex Museum. We agreed that it would be cool to get a physical token after visiting different exhibits. That evolved into a passport-style stamp collection book. I got local businesses to participate and hired local illustrator Ash Beadle. to hand-draw all the Quest illustrations you see in the book. The Passport is about interacting in an authentic way with the place you’re visiting. In that spirit, we made an intentional choice not to use AI to do the Quest illustrations.
We hope you have fun on your quests, ask questions, do your own research, take notes, use binoculars, wear a costume, become a mystic, hunter, alchemist, wanderer and tell us how it goes!
